This society has
been founded in 1871 by a group of Alsatian people who has
fled the Prussian domination in Alsace and Moseley. This
people wanted to create a structure to take care of the
new immigrants, providing them social security and everything
one can need while arriving in a new country.
Today there are 164 members, the youngest
is 3 months, and the oldest is 102 year! The website brings
a lot of new members. The only admission criterion is to
be born in Alsace or at least to have Alsatian ancestors.
30% of the members are American. The annual contribution
is $40.
This society organizes every year two lunches, in April
and for Christmas, both compulsory, and which permitted
the association to maintain itself through the year. There
are also many other activities, for example barbecues in
June, the Liberty Party (the mother of Bartholdi was Alsatian),
Bastille Day, conferences, book signing…
The objective of this society is to become for its members
a new Alsatian family across the sea.

association a été fondée en 1871 par
un groupe de cinq Alsaciens ayant quitté la France
après l’annexion prussienne avec pour volonté
initiale de créer un réseau, une sorte de
société de secours mutuel, qui pourrait pallier
a tous les manques des nouveaux arrivants. Au l'origine,
seuls les hommes pouvaient adhérer et ils payaient
une cotisation afin de pouvoir recevoir une aide financière
en cas de besoin.
Aujourd'hui,
l'association compte 164 membres de tous
âges. Le site Internet amène beaucoup de nouveaux
membres, comme le bouche-à-oreille. La condition
d’admission est d’être né en Alsace
ou au minimum d’avoir des ancêtres alsaciens.
Environ 30% des membres sont américains. La
cotisation est de 40$ par an.
Cette
association organise beaucoup d'activités, dont deux
repas par an en avril et à Noël, obligatoires
dans le règlement, dont le maintien a sans doute
contribue a faire perdurer l'association, un pique-nique
en juin, la participation à la Liberty Party
et au Bastille Day. Mais il y a aussi des conférences,
des book signing...
L'objectif
de l'association est de constituer une deuxieme famille
pour les expatries.
