This is one of the oldest associations in France, part of 3 great associations of public utility. It was founded in 1887, with the aim to preserve the memory of people who died for the freedom of France.
It counts more than 200000 members in 62 countries. There are 96 general delegations all over the world, each with very official role, for example the maintenance of the memory and maintenance of the war memorials. The American Souvenir Francais is a non-profit organization, established in 1994 by Colonel Roger Cestac, “American Society off the French Memory”. Here the mission is a little different. While remaining in the logic of the French memory, there is a true alliance with the American memory.

The board is composed by both American and French members, the French ambassador is honorary president. This society counts approximately 250 members and friends, the majority is already members of the Souvenir Francais in France, and 60% of the members are French, 40% American. The association has 3 objectives: to bind the French and American memories, to increase its audience near the young people, to keep a regular rhythm of activities. In the USA the volunteers identify the tombs of the soldiers (many common graves, especially due to the period of Independence War).

Fondée en 1887, le Souvenir Français est une des associations les plus anciennes de France, elle fait partie des trois grandes associations d’utilité publique. Son but est de préserver et d'entretenir le souvenir des gens qui sont morts pour la liberte de la France.

L'association compte plus de 200 000 adhérents dans 62 pays. Il y a 96 délégations générales, dont aux Etats Unis, qui ont un rôle officiel comme en France et qui consiste à l'entretien de la mémoire et à l'entretien des monuments aux morts.
Le Souvenir Français américain est une organisation américaine à but non lucratif, établie en 1994 et fondée par le colonel Roger Cestac sous le nom d'« American Society of le Souvenir Français ». En restant dans la logique du Souvenir Français, il y a une vraie alliance avec la mémoire américaine. Ainsi, il y a une forte collaboration avec la French American Fondation.
Le bureau est franco-américain et l’ambassadeur français est président honoraire.

L’association a trois objectifs : lier les mémoires françaises et américaines, augmenter son audience auprès des jeunes, et garder des activités régulières.
L’association compte environ 250 membres et amis, la plupart déjà membres du Souvenir français. Environ 60% des membres sont français, 40% américains.
