Accueil New York is a non-profit association, founded in 1988
by Chantal Château and Ghislaine Somnolet. This association
was created to answer has a personal need for the 2 founders,
has to know to find reception facilities which answers the questions
of a practical nature that can occurs the newcomers. Permanence
was established with the Consulate, thanks to Andre Gadaud,
and it is still there. The association worked from the beginning
with the consulate, it encourages the newcomers to be registered
there and provides councils of a lawyer for the questions concerning
the administrative issues.
Everything is gathered in a guide updated every three years,
sold $10 at the permanence. The association does not want to
be used as relay for commercial purposes and it does not make
publicity but is satisfied to recommend people.
It counts 575 members, mainly women (who followed
their husbands and who seek activities and want to meet other
women). The contribution is of $45 per year, $25 for
the young people and the seniors. All the members are
French-speaking. The average age ranges between 35 and 50 years.
The plans for the future are centered on the increase in the
activities suggested, to include more the spouse of the members.
The president Catherine Courrier also wishes to develop the
reception of the young people, in internship or VIE (international
voluntarship abroad), to be used as social bond between them.
The society accounts 22 clubs, all animated by members, as well
sporting as cultural. The oldest is the club Working Girl, founded
by the current president in 1998. These clubs have various vocations,
pure entertainment or networking.

Accueil New-York est une association à but non lucratif,
fondée en 1988 par Chantal Château et Ghislaine
Somnolet.
Cette association a été créée pour
constituer une structure d’accueil qui réponde
aux questions d’ordre pratique que peuvent se poser les
nouveaux arrivants.
Une permanence a été établie au Consulat.
L’association a dès le départ travaillé
en relation avec le Consulat pour encourager les nouveaux venus
à s’y inscrire. L'association propose par exemple
les conseils d’un avocat pour les questions d'ordre administratif.
Les conseils sont regroupés dans un guide remis à
jour tous les trois ans, vendu à la permanence 10$. L’association
ne veut pas servir de relais à des fins commerciales.
Ainsi, elle ne fait aucune publicité, elle recommande
seulement des personnes.
L'association
compte 575 membres. La cotisation est
de 45$ par an, 25$ pour les jeunes et les séniors.
Tous les membres sont francophones.
Les
projets d’avenir sont centrés autour de l’augmentation
des activités proposées. Un des objectifs est
également de faire participer les conjoints des membres.
La présidente, Catherine Courrier, souhaite
également développer l’accueil des jeunes,
en stage ou en VIE, afin que l'association puisse servir de
lien social entre eux.
L’association
compte 22 clubs aussi bien sportifs que culturels, tous animés
par des membres. Le plus ancien est le club Working Girl,
fondé par l’actuelle présidente en 1998.
Ces clubs ont différentes vocations, du pur divertissement
au networking.
L'association se finance par des opérations de Fund Raising,
par des sponsors français (Chanel, L’Occitane,
Vuitton…) lors des soirées organisées ou
pour les tombolas en donnant des lots notamment.
