A French Writer in a New York School
Hervé Tullet, started writing books for children 15 years ago, when his first son was born. Before, he was an artistic director. He wrote more than 40 books. The author recently created short videos with funny characters named “blops”. We met him during his visit of a public school in New York.
Hervé Tullet is not only a writer but also a real character: dynamic and creative. He describes himself as a clown. During his workshops, he moves, screams, reads, jumps, doodles: he does everything to captivate the children, who, in return, know how to show their interest. At the public school 125 in Harlem, the writer has the feeling to be a rock star. He is happy when he interacts with children and does love their energy. He is motivated by their desire of creation and acknowledges that, in the process of creating a book, the best part is to go into the classrooms, to meet children. The author laments the fact that, in France, only few writers visit schools.
